Privacy Policy
How ProteinPrice.com handles your data. The short version: we collect very little, store almost nothing personal, never sell user data, and honor GDPR and CCPA rights when they apply.
Summary (read this first)
ProteinPrice.com is a static, mostly read-only price comparison site. We do not run a newsletter, do not run a user account system, do not handle payments, and do not have a tracking advertising network embedded on our pages. Visitors are essentially anonymous to us. Most data-protection questions about our site have the same honest answer: we do not have that data about you.
Information we collect
To keep the site running and understand which pages help readers, we collect a minimal set of operational and analytics information.
Analytics (aggregate, no cookies)
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, a privacy-respecting analytics product that does not use cookies, does not fingerprint users, and does not build cross-site behavioral profiles. It tells us aggregate page views, country-level traffic, and referring source. We never see individual visitor identities.
Affiliate click logging
When you click an outbound "View Deal" or "Buy Now" link, the click is recorded anonymously: timestamp, destination retailer, source page. No personal identifiers are attached. We use this to measure which products and pages help readers and to reconcile affiliate revenue with retailers.
Server access logs
Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) retains standard request logs (IP address, user agent, requested URL, response status) for a short period for abuse prevention, security investigations, and capacity planning. These rotate out automatically.
Contact form / email correspondence
If you email us or fill in the contact form at /contact/, we receive the message content, your email address, and any details you choose to include. We use this only to reply and to fix issues you report (price errors, missing products, broken links).
What we do NOT collect
- No user accounts. There is nothing to register for. No usernames, passwords, or profiles exist.
- No newsletter subscribers at this time. If we add one in future, signing up will be opt-in with a separate consent flow.
- No payment information. Purchases happen on the retailer's site, not ours.
- No behavioral advertising IDs, no third-party ad cookies, no remarketing pixels.
How we use information
We use the small amount of information we do collect for clearly defined operational purposes only:
- Site analytics and performance: understanding which pages and products are useful, and identifying broken pages.
- Affiliate reconciliation: matching aggregate click data against retailer reports so we can verify commission payouts.
- Abuse prevention and security: blocking trackers, bots, and bad actors at the network edge.
- Responding to your messages: when you email us or submit the contact form.
We do not sell user data. We do not rent or trade user data. We do not use your information to build advertising profiles or to power third-party retargeting.
Sharing with third parties
We try to keep the third-party footprint small. The services involved in delivering ProteinPrice.com to you are:
- Cloudflare: hosting, CDN, web application firewall, and privacy-respecting analytics. Cloudflare processes the request logs described above on our behalf.
- Google Fonts: web font delivery (Inter typeface) over Google's CDN.
- Affiliate networks and retailer affiliate programs: when you click an outbound retailer link, the destination retailer and its affiliate network may set their own tracking parameters and cookies. Networks we participate in include Amazon Associates, ShareASale, Impact, Awin, and CJ Affiliate, plus direct retailer programs at iHerb, MyProtein, Bodybuilding.com, Transparent Labs, Muscle & Strength, GNC, and Vitacost.
Each third party has its own privacy policy. We do not share additional information about you with them beyond what is inherent in delivering a page or processing a click. We do not pass your email address, name, or any other identifying information to retailers or affiliate networks.
Cookies and similar tech
On the ProteinPrice.com domain itself, we use only essential cookies and local storage for basic site functionality: for example, remembering your filter or sort preferences on a category page during your session. These are not used to track you across other websites.
When you click an outbound link to a retailer, that retailer and any affiliate network they use may set their own cookies in your browser to attribute the purchase. These cookies are set by the retailer's domain, not ours, and are governed by the retailer's privacy policy. You can clear or block these cookies in your browser settings at any time without affecting how ProteinPrice.com works.
Cloudflare Web Analytics, our analytics provider, does not use cookies.
Your rights (GDPR + CCPA + similar laws)
Depending on where you live, you may have specific data-protection rights. Because we hold so little personal data, exercising these rights with us is usually quick.
If you are in the European Economic Area, UK, or Switzerland (GDPR / UK GDPR)
- Right of access: ask what personal data we hold about you. For most visitors the honest answer is "nothing tied to you personally."
- Right to rectification: ask us to correct inaccurate personal data we hold.
- Right to erasure: ask us to delete personal data we hold, subject to applicable legal exceptions.
- Right to restrict or object: ask us to limit how we process your personal data, or object to a particular use.
- Right to data portability: receive a copy of personal data you provided to us in a portable format.
- Right to lodge a complaint: with your local data-protection authority if you believe we have mishandled your data.
If you are a California resident (CCPA / CPRA)
- Right to know: categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you in the prior 12 months.
- Right to delete: personal information we have collected, subject to legal exceptions.
- Right to correct: inaccurate personal information we maintain.
- Right to opt out of "sale" or "sharing": of personal information. We do not sell personal information as defined under California law, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
- Right to non-discrimination: for exercising any of the above.
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@proteinprice.com from the address you would like us to act on, or send us a message via /contact/. We respond within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request affecting personal data.
Retention
We retain operational information only as long as it is useful for the purposes described above:
- Aggregate analytics: indefinitely, because it is already aggregated and not tied to individuals.
- Affiliate click logs: typically up to 24 months for reconciliation, then aggregated or deleted.
- Server access logs: short retention by our hosting provider, typically days to weeks.
- Email correspondence: retained for as long as we may reasonably need to follow up with you (typically 24 months), then deleted on request or as part of routine cleanup.
Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect the integrity of the site and the small amount of personal data we hold: HTTPS everywhere, hosting behind Cloudflare's edge network and WAF, restricted access to operational tooling, and a small surface area to attack (no user accounts, no payment data, no large personal-data stores). No system is perfectly secure, but we keep ours boring on purpose.
Children's privacy
ProteinPrice.com is not directed at children under 13 years of age, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact privacy@proteinprice.com and we will delete it promptly.
International transfers
Our hosting, CDN, and analytics provider (Cloudflare) operate a global network. Your request may be served by, and aggregate logs processed in, a Cloudflare data center outside your country of residence, including in the United States. Cloudflare maintains appropriate safeguards for international data transfers, including Standard Contractual Clauses where required.
Changes to this policy
If we update this policy we will change the "Updated" date at the top of the page. Material changes (for example, adding a newsletter or a new analytics provider) will be flagged clearly on the site. Continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
